New Delhi: Delhi's private schools are all set to increase school fees in the coming academic session. The Bansal committee set up by the Delhi govt has recommended a Rupee 500 rupee increase per month in the tuition fee of students.
This means parents will have to shell out an additional Rupees 6000 every year.
The report is already with the cabinet for approval, but the education minister assures that the figure won’t be too high.
“The fees will be according to the parents income , weather they are from middle class or lower class, everything will be categorized,” says Education Minister, Arvinder Singh Lovely.
The math over the hike still has no set formula. While the government is looking at a flexible range, private schools have been demanding a raise of nearly 40 per cent in order to pay their teachers according to the 6th pay commission.
“Salary bill needs to be looked at. If my salary bill is rupees 10 lakh and the increased salary bill is rupees 15 lakh then that 50 per cent increase then the increase should be 50 per cent. Just a 300, 400 and 500 is not enough,” says, Principal, Tagore International School, Suman Nath.
While most parents have made their peace with the 6 to 8 per cent fee hike as allowed by the government, they feel a sudden and whopping 30 to 40 per cent increase is plain unreasonable.
“These things should be done in a professional manner. A company publishes audits results. We have earned this revenue, salary etc. Profit loss balance sheet sort of a thing. Some transparency,” says Ajay a parent.
While private schools and the government do their number crunching, its the parents who are going to bear the cost.
