New Delhi: The first cut-off list of Delhi University is out with cut-offs reaching the skies. And several hopefuls have met with disappointment.
However, many students are also looking beyond Delhi University.
Pankhuri Sharma passed out of KV JNU with an 81 per cent, a score good enough for admission in Delhi University.
But she is not satisfied yet, Pankhuri wants to try her luck in Jamia Millia Islamia as well.
The university has over 6,000 students on its rolls and offers a variety of courses including B Tech, BE, B Sc, Bachelor of Architecture, B Com, BA, Bachelor of Business Studies, Bachelors of Fine Arts and five-year BA LLB course that are options for under graduates, most of which require an entrance test.
Says Pankhuri, “It is better to apply for professional courses than graduate courses in DU.”
While it is a common practice for class 12 passouts to be heading straight for colleges in Delhi University, options like JNU and IP University are also gaining ground.
Another 79 per center from Indore, Nutan Agarwal plans to apply in Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (IP) University, apart from Miranda, Ramjas and Hansraj.
Another undergraduate option that many students are opting for is the Jawaharlal Nehru University.
The free economy and the growth in tourism have also widened career opportunities for those pursuing language courses in Persian, Arabic, French, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, Hindi, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese and German.
Says career counselor, Kanika Marwaha, “We need to look at JNU for a wonderful range of subjects it offers. And why doesn’t a student think of pursuing something like Chinese that has a huge job market.”
So there are many choices for admission seekers like Pankhuri and Nutan. After all there are options beyond the mammoth Delhi University as well.
