New Delhi: The latest security threat to India is the Pakistani Taliban and its 26/11-wary military leadership is huddled in New Delhi to prepare to counter even more brazen terror attacks from an even more motivated enemy.
Defence Minister AK Antony said, "Taliban is a real threat to world peace and a threat to India."
26/11 has forced the biggest post-Kargil shake-up in India's security establishment. This includes the most comprehensive review of coastal security and the cross-country deployment of National Security Guard commandos. But the danger of surprise guerilla attacks or offensives by Pakistanis still lingers.
The threat from the Pakistani Taliban will top the agenda in discussions with the US National Security Adviser, James Jones. This is sufficient indication that there is no let-up in India's post 26/11-diplomatic offensive against Pakistan.
Countering the Pakistan threat tops the agenda of the Unified Commanders Conference, the first such military review after 26/11.
The top brass is expected to push for joint command and control mechanisms for a well-coordinated response to terror attacks. But even seven months after terror struck Mumbai, no one in the security establishment is prepared to say that India is any safer.
