Mumbai: As tragedy struck Mumbai and people were running from pillar to post in search of their loved ones, a couple tried to make easy money out of the situation.

Sunil and his wife Sangeeta claimed the body of sixty-year-old Jitendra Darshaniye Gandhi’s who died in the blasts, as that of his father’s.

Sunil took Gandhi’s and performed the last rites then bagged a Rs 1 lakh compensation offered by the Government to families of blast victims.

Meanwhile, Gandhi’s family were trying to trace the body at all police stations and hospitals until they found out that Sunil and Sangeeta had taken custody of his body.

“These people contacted me and we helped them find the body. We went to all the police stations to look for the body. It was during this process that we found out that they were fake,” said a social worker

The police then started investigation on Sunil and Sangeeta's background.

"He said that his wife is suffering from TB so he did this to get money for his wife's treatment," said a police constable, Jafar Pathan.
