Patiala: A Patiala court on Thursday ordered a fresh trial of Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi in the human trafficking case registered against him in 2003.
The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate first class Rajwinder Singh also dismissed a petition moved by Mehndi in which he had sought exemption from personal appearance in the court during the trial. The court said a trial be held to deliver justice in the case.
A case against Mehndi, his brother Shamsher and some of his associates was registered by the Patiala police following a complaint filed by one Bakshish Singh of Balbehra village.
The complainant alleged that the Mehndi brothers had taken lakhs of rupees from him on the pretext of sending him abroad as a member of the troupe of Daler Mehndi.
After the registration of case against the Mehndi brothers, several other persons had also come forward with similar complaints against the two brothers.
