Court refuses to ban Omkara

Mumbai: A sessions court in Mumbai on Tuesday refused to ban director Vishal Bharadwaj's film Omkara on the allegation that it contained "vulgar and abusive language".
Film actor Naseem Khan has filed a plea before the court, seeking an immediate ban on the film.
The court has asked director Vishal Bharadwaj to file an affidavit by September 14 when the matter would be heard.
Hearing the petition, the court observed that it was not granting any ad-interim relief at this juncture and posted the matter for arguments on September 14.
Khan, in his application, wanted the court to prosecute film producer Kumar Mangat of Devgan Films, director Vishal Bharadwaj, the Censor Board, the Union Government and the Maharashtra government.
Khan has alleged that the film's dialogues were vulgar and deprecated the mind of the audience.
He said that he saw Omkara on August 17 and was surprised at how the film had been granted a censor certificate.
Khan, who is a small-time Hindi film actor, said in the petition that the first shot of the film, which is immediately preceded by the national anthem, itself contains "vulgar" dialogues.
The petition also took objection to the word om in the title of the film Omkara and hoped that the filmmakers be asked to change the title.
Notices were served to Mangat, Bharadwaj, Devgan films and the Central Board of Film Certification and Government of Maharashtra, Khan said.
