Panchkula: The Panchkula District and Sessions Court will give its verdict on former Haryana director general of police SPS Rathore's anticipatory bail plea on Friday.
Rathore's interim bail is over and on Thursday in court, Rathore's wife and lawyer Abha has alleged character assassination by Ruchika Girhotra's family.
She has blamed media hype for the three fresh FIRs filed against her husband, who has already been convicted for molesting Ruchika.
She also raised questions over the character of Ruchika's father Subhash Chandra Girhotra.
She said Girhotra and his friend Anand Prakash who has been fighting for justice for the young girl, had corruption cases against them.
Meanwhile, Ruchika's school authorities have been maintaining that they could not be blamed for the girl's suicide.
"The school in innocent. The girl (Ruchika) committed suicide after three years. School is no where responsible. After three months we reminded them (Girhotras) to pay the fee. Just for fee a student will not be expelled. Suppose a child dose not come for many day and fee is not paid for six months or one year we strike off their name. They can reapply. We stand by our statement. We will not succumb to any pressure," said Father Thomas, Spokesman for Chandigarh Shimla Diocese which runs Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School where Ruchika was a student.
But Ruchika's classmates and friends Aradhna and Gitanjili also said that the school, too, was responsible for her death.
"We had been hearing since the beginning of the academic year that she would be going abroad for further studies. After this incident (molestation by Rathore) we all assumed that she had dropped out and gone abroad. We did not think she had been expelled. I was keeping my fingers crossed that the school would not be involved in any way but now that the enquiry officer has found some incriminating evidence against the school. The law must take its course," said Gitanjili:
"The school played a significant role in connivance with Rathore to push Ruchika towards committing suicide. Certainly they should be punished. Our case has now become stronger and I feel more confident and my hope in the system is coming back which I lost in 19 years," said Aradhna Prakash Gupta, who along with his father has been pursuing the case for the past 19 years.
Ruchika was molested by Rathore on August 12, 1990, and then forced to leave the school in September 1990.
Three years later on December 29, 1993, she committed suicide.
