Pune: A district court will hear the Maharashtra government's application against Lavasa, the ambitious hill city project set in the outskirts of Pune city, on Tuesday. The Prithviraj Chavan government had filed a criminal complaint against Lavasa Corporation and its promoters for alleged violations of the Environment Protection Act.
The Maharashtra government initiated proceedings against Lavasa promoters. They have named six officers and all nine directors of Lavasa including Ajit Gulabchand and Annirudha Deshpande in the case.
They also said that the case proceedings will go under section 15 of Environment Protection Act.
Sources told CNN-IBN earlier that public servants or bureaucrats, who were part of the Lavasa clearance, could be in trouble as the government is actively considering legal proceedings against them.
Work was suspended in November 2009 after the township was found flouting environmental norms.
Lavasa Chairman Gulabchand on November 2 said that the state government is acting as an agent of the Environment Ministry.
