New Delhi: Think IIM recruitments or internships, think high-paying jobs in the swish offices of MNCs.
But in a surprising first, an IIM-Ahmedabad student is interning with the research cell of the Communist Party of India in New Delhi.
Chepuri Shri Krishna will intern with the CPI-M for the next two years and hopes to learn things that his prestigious B-school may not have been able to teach.
"The party has a rational basis for all its stands so it is a good place to do policy research,” says Chepuri.
Chepuri admits that he chose the off-beat internship offer to hone his interest in public policy because it's in the Delhi offices that the CPI (M) does its number crunching.
It turns raw data into working papers before being articulated as policy within and outside the party by its leaders
"I am here to see how they articulate their well thought out position,” say Chepuri.
Internship apart, Chepuri has a job at hand. "I am working on a document on the unorganised sector,” says Chepuri.
It is a curious match as corporate India and the CPI-M are rarely see eye to eye.
Many believe that a political party - that believes in the greater role of the state - picking the brains of a member of an Indian institution could help both parties understand each other better.
And it could actually be a signal that each is reaching out to the other.
