Bangalore: A CNN-IBN investigation has found that a relative of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy bought prime commercial land from a real estate dealer at half its market price.

A sale deed shows the Kumaraswamy’s sister-in-law H Kavitha, his elder brother Balakrishne Gowda’s wife, bought a 25,270-sq-ft piece of land in Bellandur village from real estate dealer Kupendra Reddy for less than Rs 1.5 crore when the property’s actual worth was more than Rs 3 crore.

Kavitha paid the money on March 23 to Reddy, director of Primal Projects Pvt Ltd. Interestingly, Reddy is one of the three real estate dealers in Bangalore who were raided by the Income Tax department on June 26.

Income Tax officials claim they found Rs 1 crore, passbooks, documents on land deals and forged papers from a house Reddy, Gottigere Manjunath, and Reddy Veerana own. Kumaraswamy and his party, the Janta Dal (Secular), have rubbished allegations that he knew the men.

Kumaraswamy was unavailable for comment and a statement from his office says that he does not want to intervene in the matter. The statement said Kumaraswamy’s brother Balakrishne, who took voluntary retirement from the civil service, is responsible to the Income Tax department.
