Thiruvananthapuram: The pressure is now on Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan. Party sources say the Chief Minister has been sternly asked to toe the party line on supporting CPM State Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC Lavlin corruption case. If he doesn't, he will just have to move out.
Minister for Devaswom, G Sudakaran said, "Just because you are holding a Constitutional post does not mean you shouldn't listen to the party. Even if you leave the post you have to come back to the party only. So come what may, you need to listen to the party."
Meawhile, Pinnarayi Vijayan is busy drumming up support for his Nava-Kerala yatra - a platform which he would use to tell the public that the Lavlin case is the Centre's conspiracy against the CPM.
Atchuthanandan has so far stayed away from the rally, leaving the party very annoyed.
"All those who are party members are a part of the rally and will be taking part in it. If someone is staying away from it, he might not be a part of CPM," said Pinnarayi Vijayan.
On February 14, when the politbureau meets in Delhi, it will be a complete showdown between Pinnarayi Viajayan and V S Achuthanathan. Will the party stand by its secretary or will it for a change listen to one of its most popular leaders? A decision on which the future of CPM in Kerala will depend on the outcome of this meet.
