England were hoping to redeem their campaign in the 50-over format but got off to a bad start by losing the first one-dayer against Australia in Melbourne by six wickets.

But the five-match ODI series gives England a chance to bounce back and draw level here on Friday. The visitors would carry forward the positives from the Tour match against Prime Minister's XI, which they won convincingly by 172 runs.

Commentary (Australia 1st Innings)

James Faulkner was adjudged the Man-of-the-Match for his game changing knock. Thanks the crowd for coming to support them, says he knows his role, he comes down the order, so it's his job to see the team through. Jokes that he may look calm, but he is nervous deep down. Admits he enjoys every time Australia win.

Michael Clarke - Clarke calls Faulkner as the new Michael Bevan. Says he is disappointed that no one from the top order converted their starts. Hails Maxwell as a special player who can play shots not many can, they need to keep playing with confidence. Calls England team a good one and accepts that they need to play well to beat them. Says he is happy that the youngsters are performing. Credits Faulkner again for his majestic knock.

Alastair Cook- Starts off saying it took a brilliant knock from Faulkner to defeat them. Says they did well, they were on top for the major part of the game but for the last partnership. Admits, captaincy is a tough job. Says he is happy with the way team stuck in and hopes they comes back well for the next match.

But just when it looked like the match was going away, James Faulkner rose to the occasion, the never-say-die attitude helped him attack and win this game for Australia. He is the hero today for Australia. Stay tuned for the details from the presentation.

Australia got off to a horrible start losing Finch on duck, thanks to stunner from Ballance, Jordan took even a better one to dismiss Warner. Root struck twice, to dismiss Clarke and then Marsh, who played well for his fifty. Haddin and Maxwell had an entertaining stand but could not see them through. Maxwell too scored his fifty.

England came back brilliantly in their batting with Morgan and Buttler playing magnificently for a 113-run stand between them. Morgan batted brilliantly to get to his sixth hundred. His knock set up the big total for them. Buttler and Bell contributed well too.

WOW! 'GABBA erupts! What a finish, the players run onto the field! Faulkner pumps his fist as he hits the winning runs. The Australians in the dressing room go bonkers. The slow-mo replay shows Faulkner and McKay hugging each other as they celebrate the win. The crowd is ecstatic with the result. This is fantastic batting from James Faulkner. The players give Faulkner guard of honor as he goes off the field.
