Australian umpires Simon Taufel and Steve Davis called off play in the afternoon with dark clouds indicating more rain to come.
Sri Lanka were struggling at 44 for 3 in response to Pakistan's first innings of 226.

Heavy rain forced the 2nd day of the third Test between SL and Pakistan to be abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Sri Lanka lead 1-0 in the series after winning the first Test by 209 runs at Galle. A placid pitch at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo ensured the second Test last week ended in a draw.
Sri Lanka are looking for their first Test series win since beating New Zealand at home in 2009.
