Amarnath's post in trouble

New Delhi: Mohinder Amarnath, who has been the North Zone selector for the past 12 months, has apparently run into rough weather. According to reports in a newspaper, several North Zone state associations are miffed with the fact that Amarnath does not devote enough time scouring for talent in the zone he represents and instead prefers to stay in Mumbai and Goa.

A top BCCI official was quoted as saying: "This is a serious issue with North Zone states and we are looking into it and if need be, we are going to make appropriate changes. But you cannot blame the selector as well because he does not stay in North India."

A Delhi & District Cricket Association official also complained, "He [Amarnath] is hardly here in Delhi, the state he represents in the panel."

According to reports, several North Zone associations are miffed with the former India batsman\'s choice of priorities.

The BCCI's AGM is scheduled to be held September and there is a strong indication that Amarnath might be stripped of his current role as a North Zone selector.

Amarnath assumed the role last year when he replaced former India batsman Yashpal Sharma. At that time, it was believed that Amarnath would succeed Kris Srikkanth as the chief of the selection committee after the latter's stint as a selector comes to an end this year.

Amarnath, 61, plied his trade in first-class cricket for Delhi.

When contacted by Cricketnext.com, Amarnath refused to comment.
