Commentary (England 2nd Innings)

Phew, that's all we have for you from this historic match at Lord's. Do join us for the third Test between England and India starting 27th July, 2014. Until then, it's goodbye and take care!

ISHANT SHARMA is adjudged the Man of the Match for his splendid spell of 7-74. He starts off saying that the batsmen played well in the first innings. Credits Rahane for playing well. Adds Vijay played well too. Admits that he just believes in himself and credits MS for handling the team well. Credits his wickets to the captain as he made him bowl short and is happy that it worked for him. Admits they had to be patient with the wickets falling in clusters. Hopes that they continue to play same brand of cricket further in the tour.

MS Dhoni, Indian captain starts off saying they did well and did the right things right. Says the individuals rose up to the challenge when wanted. Adds the wicket was tough but Pujara did well to leave the balls and made the bowlers bowl to them. They wanted to make the bowlers bowl a lot so that the tail also gets a good stint. Credits Bhuvi for playing well. Admits that they learnt from the previous tour that they need to stay in the game and the spinners come in later too in the game. Credits Jadeja for playing the knock he did, he will only get better with time. Says that Jadeja has talent and he needs to believe in himself. Adds that they had runs and they knew it was not going to be easy. Root and Ali played well so they knew they had to push hard. Says he made Ishant bowl short and is glad that it worked for him. Mentions that, he was standing behind so that they had more chances catching ones going between the fielders.

Alastair Cook, England captain starts off crediting India for playing well. Adds the pitch was turning and doing things a bit, it was a good toss to win and we did bowl in the right areas. Says they did not bat well too in better conditions, did not make use of the opportunities as well. Credits Jadeja for a playing a match turning knock, calling him a brave. Says it is a matter of confidence and knows they need to turn it around soon. Admits the younger players have performed well. Admits he himself has to start scoring runs too. Calls Prior the best wicket keeper batsman in the country. Says it gets tougher but he will try his best and wishes to score runs for his team.

India, in their second innings were again reduced to 123-4. Vijay and Dhoni then came together to steady the innings. Vijay missed out on his ton getting out for 95. Jadeja then took up the attack and scored a handy 68 to get the lead over 300 for India. Kumar chipped in with a good fifty as well. India did well to take the first four English wickets late on Day four before Ishant turned up and won the match for India with his bowling.

India were put into bat by England who won the toss on a very green deck. Their bowlers almost wasted the new ball but corrected themselves just in time to have India 145-7. Rahane, though had other ideas and played magnificently to score a hundred along with a good support from the tail to post a total of 295. England in return replied with a score of 319 thanks to a ton from Ballance as the rest of the batsmen failed to adapt to the conditions.

The match looked evenly poised when Ishant struck to dismiss Ali at the stroke of Lunch. England came out attacking to the short ball but India persisted with their plan. Result, 4 wickets fell off the short ball handing India a win.
