Bridgetown: Former skipper Ricky Ponting (25 not out) and opener Ed Cowan (28 not out) guided Australia to a comfortable eight-wicket win over the West Indies President's XI on Wednesday in a warm-up match ahead of the three-match Test series.

Australia needed only an hour to overhaul the home side's paltry target of 86, winning by eight wickets, though the local bowlers again posed some problems, particularly pacer Jason Holder.

The Australians bowled the hosts out for 201 and 98, with fast bowler Ryan Harris and Ben Hilfenhaus each taking four-wicket hauls. Australia scored 214 and 87-2.

Ponting and Cowan guided Australia to a comfortable eight-wicket win over the West Indies President's XI.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Wade, who missed the tour match but will make his Test debut on Saturday, said, "Although it was low-scoring at times, the bowlers especially probably got exactly what they needed leading into the Test match."

The early finish enabled the Australians to complete a one-hour fielding session at the nearby Kensington Oval. Meanwhile, the West Indies have named batting allrounder Narsingh Deonarine in a 13-man squad for the first Test. Deonarine, who has played eight Tests, made 82 in his only Test against Australia, in Perth in 2009.
