New Delhi: The curtain-raiser to India’s domestic season, the Irani Trophy, has been shifted from Jaipur to Bangalore following an inspection of the pitch at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium over the weekend.
The 2012-13 Irani Trophy, featuring current Ranji Trophy winners Rajasthan and Rest of India, was scheduled to be held at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium from September 21-25. However, on Saturday the chairman of the BCCI’s Grounds and Pitches Committee, Venkat Sundaram, had inspected the venue and decided that the pitch and outfield in Jaipur were not in a proper state to hold a match of this magnitude. Nagpur and Indore were the speculated alternatives, but the BCCI has announced that the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore is the appropriate location for the match.
As reported earlier this week, work on preparation for the Irani Trophy had come to a standstill because the Rajasthan Sports Council, owners of the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, had barred Rajasthan Cricket Association officials from entering the venue since July.

M Chinnaswamy chosen by the BCCI to host the domestic season curtain-raiser after Rajasthan troubles.
