Mirpur: Ahmed Shehzad scored an unbeaten 113 to power Barisal Burners clinch a 8-wicket win over Duronto Rajshahi in the first semifinal of Bangladesh Premier League on Tuesday.
After put in to bat first, Rajshahi's first three batsmen disappointed and the repair was left to the middle-order and they didn't let their team down. Sean Ervine (82) and skipper Mishfiqur Rahim (58) consolidated Rajshahi's innings by scoring half centuries each to take the score to 184. And for Burners Yasir Arafat claimed three wickets by giving away 30 runs.
When Burners came out for the run-chase, the openers plundered the bowling attack, especially Ahmed Shehzad. To give him company at the other end was the experienced Australian, Brad Hodge, who scored 33.
Shehzad played a blazing innings of 113 off 49 ball, which was studded with 12 boundaries and 6 sixes. The Burners chased down the taget of 185 with ease and booked a berth in the final.
While in the second semifinal, Dhaka Gladiators made it to the final of the Bangladesh Premier League with a nine-run win over Khulna Royal Bengals.
Dhaka electing to bat scored 191/4 in 20 overs, while Khulna stumbled to 183/7. Khulna captain Shakib Al Hasan looked pretty much in control when he scored an unbeaten 86 off 41 balls, but failed to take his team home.
Dhaka's innings was completely built by a 72-run stand between Mohammad Ashraful and Azhar Mahmood, who made 65 off 39 balls with six fours and three sixes. Afridi who joined the team after his assignment in the Emirates gave the final surge.
Chasing the target, Khulna lost Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Herschelle Gibbs, Hafeez and Dwayne Smith within eight overs.
