BCCI mulls three captains for Team India

BCCI is considering the option of three different captains for three formats following Team India’s unsatisfactory performance in the ICC World T20, reports IBN7 on Monday.

India failed to qualify for the semi-finals despite winning four of their five matches in the tournament that concluded in Sri Lanka on Sunday with West Indies coming out on top.

India captain MS Dhoni of late has been at the centre of criticism from former players. Ex-India spinner Maninder Singh in a scathing interview to Cricketnext.com last week said, "It is time we looked for a new captain. Basically, Dhoni is a gambler and he believes in his intuition. These gambles work when the time is good, but when it is bad they start backfiring. He made some blunders when we were winning the matches but those swept under carpets.

According to IBN7, the BCCI is all set to embrace the idea following India's unsatisfactory show at the ICC World T20.

“If the negatives were taken care of then probably Indian cricket wouldn’t have come at this stage. Losing 8-0 in abroad Tests, failure in the Asia Cup and failing to qualify in three World Twenty20 semi-finals is very disappointing,” Maninder said.

"I think Virat Kohli should be the captain. He will get respect from other boys as he is performing in all three formats," he added.

According to reports, Dhoni is likely to retain the Test captaincy; Kohli is being considered for the ODI captaincy, while the T20 reins can be given to Suresh Raina.
