B'desh, WI resume Test battle at Dhaka

Dhaka: After a draw in rain-marred Chittagong Test, West Indies and Bangladesh would want to prove a point to each other and gain an upper hand by winning the second Test, which begins here from Saturday.

West Indies batsmen failed to make use of the starts they got in the first Test and would want to make amends by posting a big score on the board to put the hosts under pressure.

Skipper Darren Sammy top-scored with 58 for his maiden Test half-century, while veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul (49), opener Kraigg Brathwaite (33) and Marlon Samuels (24) all got starts but failed to convert them into big knocks. That eventually led to Windies getting bowled out for 244, conceding a 106-run first innings lead after Bangladesh made 350/9 declared.

The concern was echoed by Sammy's post-match comments where he urged his batsmen to be "a bit more patient."

"As a batting group, we did not put up the first-innings score we hoped for and it's a matter of being a bit more patient when we're at the crease," Sammy had said then.

Spin is going to be the biggest challenges for the visitors as Bangladesh spinners claimed 11 of the 12 West Indies wickets to fall in the match. Debutant Elias Sunny was the star with a seven-wicket match haul while all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan bagged four.

Bangladesh would thus be in a buoyant mood as they were on top for most part of the first Test, in which two of the five days were washed out by rain.
