Birmingham: England reached 221 for 5 at stumps on day four of the third Test at Edgbaston, trailing West Indies by 205 runs and chasing a total of 277 to avoid the follow on.
England slumped to 49 for 3 on Sunday until Kevin Pietersen hit 78 — including one six and 11 fours — and Ian Bell made 76 not out.
Tino Best took 2 for 37 after impressing with the bat earlier when West Indies posted a first innings of 426.
Best hit 95 — a Test record for a number 11 batsman — and Denesh Ramdin made 107 not out.
Heavy rain is forecast for Monday and a draw seems probable with no play on the first two days.
