The unbeaten stand between MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli took India to the 261-run target to beat NZ in the second Test and win the two-match series 2-0.

Earlier, rain stalled India's chase to win the second Test against New Zealand when the umpires ordered covers to be brought on with India's score reading 147 for 2.

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir added 77 runs in just 11.5 overs while chasing 261 to win but then both threw their wickets away to allow NZ to come back at lunch with India 88 for 2.

In the morning, Jeetan Patel and Trent Boult added 16 crucial runs to New Zealand's overnight score before Zaheer Khan edged out Patel to end the innings at 248, leaving India 261 to win the second Test.
