Mirpur: A 17-ball 34 by Kieron Pollard proved decisive at the end as Dhaka Gladiators registered a five-wicket victory over the Barisal Burners in the Bangladesh Premier League match here on Saturday.
Despite losing former Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful and Aftab Ahmed early in their chase of 157, Gladiators were kept in the game by Imran Nazir, who scored 65 off 40 deliveries. Azhar Mahmood, with his 30-ball 42, supported Nazir as the duo kept abreast with the required rate. Pollard hit decisive blows (4 sixes and one four) to seal the fifth victory in nine matches for the Gladiators.
Earlier, a fifty by Ahmed Shehzad (51 off 39 balls) and useful hands by Phil Mustard (33 off 23 balls) and Mithun Ali (24 not out off 24 balls) took the Burners to a challenging total. Naved-ul-Hasan took two for 22 while Elias Sunny and Ashraful chipped in with a wicket each for the Gladiators.
