The spinner took four wickets to put the skids on Antigua Hawksbills\' chase of 146, giving Barbados Tridents their second consecutive win.
Bridgetown, Barbados: The spin pair of Ashley Nurse and Shakib Al Hasan combined to bowl Barbados Tridents to their second win in a row in the Caribbean Premier League, this one a 12-run success over Antigua Hawksbills at Kensington Oval.
Shakib took the second wicket to fall in Antigua's chase of 147, getting Ricky Ponting caught at slip for 1 in his CPL debut. This strike came six balls after Antigua opener Devon Thomas felt to Rayad Emrit for 2 off 13 balls. Johnson Charles (44) was the third wicket to fall, bowled by Dwayne Smith, before Nurse had Marlon Samuels (23 off 31) stumped when on the charge.
At 88 for 4 in the 16th over, the chase was fast running out of steam. Nurse then extracted Ben Rohrer, Dave Mohammed and Kemar Roach as Antigua's lower order swung their bats in vain.
Earlier, after opting to bat, Barbados had been carried to 146 thanks to Jonathan Carter (31), Shoaib Malik (33) and Umar Akmal (30). A superb catch from Thomas at mid-off to get rid of Smith in the third over was followed by Carter and Malik adding 44 to steady the innings. Samuels, Antigua's captain, removed the set batsmen in the successive overs, with Thomas being the catcher both times. Akmal and Powell put on 33 in quick time and No. 10 Jason Holder hit the last ball for six to get the total to 146 for 8.
