Mirpur: Chris Gayle's injury proved costly for Barisal Burners as the Chittagong Kings eased to an eight-wicket victory in a Bangladesh Premier League match at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.
Having been put in to bat, Barisal got off to a flier, with Gayle smashing a 16-ball 30, including two fours and three sixes. However, once the West Indian retired hurt, no other batsmen was able to maintain the momentum nor make a decent contribution, with the exception of Brad Hodge (38), and the Burners managed just 125-6 in their 20 overs. The Chittagong bowlers, barring Darren Bravo, proved to be difficult to get away, with Enamul Haque Jr and Kevon Cooper picking up two wickets each.
Chittagong's openers ensured the chase was never in any doubt, scoring at over 10 runs an over to reach their target in just 12.4 overs with eight wickets to spare. Man of the Match Nasir Jamshed stayed unbeaten on 81 (47), while fellow opener Jahurul Islam fell for 41. Yasir Arafat was the only Barisal bowler to escape severe punishment, though Nazmul Islam and Hodge picked up a wicket each.
Man of the Match Nasir Jamshed stayed unbeaten on 81 as Chittagong chased down their 126-run target with ease.
Chittagong Kings have now won four of their five matches, having lost just once to the Dhaka Gladiators.
