Kingston, Jamaica: Chris Gayle made a solid impact as Jamaica Tallawahs moved to second place on the Caribbean Premier League points table courtesy a tense three-wicket win over Trinidad & Tobago Steel at Sabina Park on Sunday. Gayle's 2 for 24 had played a role in keeping T&T to 133 for 8 in their 20 overs, but it was his 25-ball 54 that proved immense as Jamaica got off to a strong start in their chase. In the end they scrapped home off the final delivery, but victory secured them second spot, tied on ten points with Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Having won the toss and opted to field, Gayle picked up the wickets of Ross Taylor (20) and Dwayne Bravo (29) to extend Jamaica's grasp on the match. T&T suffered early blows as David Bernard and Andrew Richard made inroads, and there three run outs did not help. Bravo's 29 was the highest individual score of a disappointing innings.

Chasing 134, Jamaica were powered by Gayle's explosive innings which contained five sixes and four fours. He put on 66 in 6.5 overs with Chadwick Walton (28) to ensure the remaining batsmen had an easy task, but Jamaica managed to lose four wickets in 23 balls. Danza Hyatt's cool-headed 25 off 225 balls sealed the win off the last ball of the match, with three wickets remaining.
