Port Elizabeth: South Africa on Thursday released Albie Morkel from its one-day squad, which is facing India in a five-match series, to let him play for the Titans in the SuperSport series.
Morkel did not play in the first three ODIs and the management want him to play for Titans against the Warriors starting in East London.
"We originally brought him into the squad to provide additional cover in the batting all-rounder position. But we have now decided that it is better for him to have regular match practice with the Titans," South Africa coach Corrie van Zyl said.
Morkel was also not included in South Africa's 15-man squad for the World Cup but Van Zyl said he would "remain on standby" for the ICC mega event - to be co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - in case other players suffer injuries.
