Chandigarh: South Africa batsman David Miller has been signed up by King's XI, Punjab for $100,000 as a replacement for all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas who is recovering from an Achilles heel injury.
Miller is an off spinning all-rounder and is expected to join the squad on Friday. Earlier King's XI had signed Ryan Mclaren from South Africa in place of the injured Stuart Broad.
Miller played in the four match ODI series against India and was a member of South Africa's preliminary World Cup squad.
"The coach and captain were of the view that we wanted a batting all-rounder,[Miller is] a young guy who has proved his value in South Africa cricket and debuted for South Africa recently.
He is very excited about being here and we are expecting him to play a crucial role for us." Aravinder Singh, the chief operating officer for Punjab, told a leading cricket website.
Under IPL rules, the replacements have to be chosen from the pool of players who went unsold in the January auction, and cannot be paid more than the players they are replacing, though they can be paid less, depending on their base price in the auction.
