'Dhoni has lost control over things'

New Delhi: Putting MS Dhoni in the dock for India's another humiliating defeat against England in the Kolkata Test, former chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth said the Indian captain has lost control control over things.

"Dhoni has lost what to do," Srikkanth said while speaking to CNN-IBN, "He is confused and when things go out of his control, he just lets things drift."

Srikkanth also raised questions about some of the tactics Dhoni applied in the third Test, saying not trying Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh enough was one of the mistakes that he committed in both the Tests. "Why didn't he bowl Sehwag more and why didn't he give a break to both spinners and tried Yuvraj for longer spells?” Srikkanth asked.

The former India captain and opener also lashed out at Dhoni for his 'pitch-related' comments after India won the Test in Ahmedabad. "His (Dhoni's) statements were nothing to do with winning the Test, but the wicket at Ahmedabad was horrible and we needed a rank turner. If you have won the Test match, why do you go and make a statement about the wicket? I think that's where the Indian slide started for me," he said.

After winning the first Test in Ahmedabad by nine wickets, India lost two back-to-back matches to go down 1-2 in the four-match series, with their latest drubbing came in Kolkata where they lost by seven wickets.

After their below-par performance in the first innings when they were all out for just 316, their batsmen performed even worse in the second innings, getting bowled out for just 247, with only Ravichandran Ashwin showing some resistance with his unbeaten innings of 93. Srikkanth said if Ashwin can apply himself than why can't the other top order batsmen.

"If a batsman like Ashwin can hang around than why not any top order batsmen? The focus was more on wickets rather than cricket," he added.
