Dhoni to plot SA exit after Aus-Pak tie

New Delhi: MS Dhoni is in no hurry to plot South Africa's exit from the ICC World Twenty20 in a virtual quarter-final against AB de Villiers' team on Tuesday. Instead, he wants to wait how the first match on that day, between Australia and Pakistan, pans out.

"We can't make plans right away as a lot of things will depend on the result of the earlier [Australia vs Pakistan] match. May be we will have some plans but then we might not need that plan at all," Dhoni said after beating Pakistan on Sunday to keep India alive in the tournament.

Dhoni said the pitch behaviour, as always, will help in picking the XI for the game and India have the advantage to see how it behaves in the first match. "Also we have the liberty of watching how the wicket behaves during first match and that certainly has an impact on our team selection for the next game," he explained.

Dhoni to plot SA downfall after Aus-Pak tie

Dhoni says how the pitch behaves in the Australia-Pakistan game will help him pick the XI against South Africa.

The Indian skipper was pretty forthright in his opinion on South Africa's performance so far in the tournament. "They have a complete side with two good fast bowlers, Jacques Kallis, two spinners. They have batsmen like AB [de Villiers], Hashim Amla and Duminy. But then in this format, you need to click as a team."

South Africa have already lost two of their three Super Eight matches and not only need to win but also hope that Australia beat Pakistan so that they have a chance to pip India and Pakistan to the semi-finals on net run rate.
