Perth: Ian Bell scored an unbeaten 77 and Jonathan Trott was not out at 64 to combine for a 133-run stand and guide England to 270 for 2 at stumps on the second day of a tour match against a Western Australia side.
Earlier Friday, the WA side declared at 451-5, with its top-six batsmen making it past 50 in England's first match on its Australian Ashes tour.
England's pace attack was unimpressive in the Western Australian first innings. James Anderson, Chris Tremlett, Boyd Rankin and Steven Finn took just three wickets among them, although Anderson was economical with 1-55 off 23 overs.
The visitors are preparing for the first Ashes test against Australia beginning Nov. 21 in Brisbane. England is attempting to win their fourth consecutive Ashes series.
