Kolkata: England completed another resounding win over India, winning the third Test by seven wickets and taking a 2-1 lead in the four-match series, with the last Test to be played in Nagpur in four days' time.

Chasing a mere 41 to win, England stumbled a little, losing three wickets for just eight runs. But Ian Bell (28) and Nick Compton (9) scored the remaining runs to complete another memorable win. Alastair Cook looked to finish the things off in a hurry and perished when he came down the track and was stumped for just one. Jonathan Trott (3) failed to pick an arm ball from Pragyan Ojha which thudded into his front pad, while Kevin Pietersen was caught behind off Ashwin for a duck.

Bell arrested the England slump by showing the full face of his bat and hitting a four off Ashwin’s full-toss. He drilled another full-toss to the straight fence as England inched closer to victory. And he punched in the air after hitting the winning run.

England go 2-1 up in the four match series, with the last Test starting in Nagpur from coming Thursday.

India started the day on 239 for 9 and hoped that Ashwin, who was unbeaten on 83 on Saturday, to go on and hit a century and extend their lead which was just 32 at the stumps on day 4. Ashwin started off where he left on Saturday, punching Steven Finn through covers and then pulling him for two fours in the first over of the morning.

But it took just two balls for James Anderson to take the last wicket of Pragyan Ojha. His length delivery, although passed the bat, kissed Ojha's off stump, dislodged the bail before going to Matt Prior's hands. Ashwin ended nine short of what could be his second Test century but would hope to carry the confidence into the fourth Test in Nagpur.
