Whangarei: Stuart Broad took three wickets to lead a determined fightback before England lost off the last ball to a New Zealand XI in the last warm-up match ahead of their Twenty20 series against New Zealand.

Tailender Matt Henry hit a four when one run was needed from the final ball to lift the New Zealand XI to a three-wicket win. But England captain Broad had done everything he could to keep his team in the match as it defended a moderate total of 170 for 5.

Joss Butler and Eion Morgan both scored 51, putting on 87 in 8.2 overs, as England rallied from 71 for 4 to post a defensible total.
