New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has been fined for his team's slow over rate during their IPL 5 match against Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground on Monday.
At the end of the match, Kolkata were assessed to be one over behind the required rate after allowances were taken into consideration. Since it was Gambhir's first offence of the season under the IPL Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, the Kolkata skipper was fined USD 20,000.
Kolkata displaced Delhi at the top of the IPL table with a six-wicket win in the match, chasing the target of 154 with ease thanks to a solid opening partnership between Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum. Both added 68 before Varun Aaron, playing his first match this season, removed the Kolkata captain, who chopped the ball on to his stumps. Jacques Kallis, however, joined McCullum and both played with a lot of care to ensure there were no scares for the visitors.
