Gavaskar 'honoured' by BCCI award

New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar, who was chosen for the Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award by BCCI on Thursday, said that he was honoured and humbled to be chosen for Indian cricket’s biggest and highest award.

The BCCI's Col. CK Nayudu Award Committee had on Thursday chosen Sunil Gavaskar as the winner of the Col. CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award. The award comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for Rs. 25 lakhs.

"This is Indian cricket's biggest and highest award and I am honoured and humbled to join the list of the previous illustrious awardees," Gavaskar told DNA. He is currently in South Africa for CLT20.

The award comprises a trophy, citation and cheque for Rs. 25 lakhs.

The Committee also decided to honour seven individuals posthumously with a Special Award, for their outstanding contribution to Indian cricket. Each of the following cricketers of yesteryear will receive a trophy and cheque for Rs. 15 lakhs at the BCCI Awards Ceremony: Vijay Merchant, Vinoo Mankad, Dattu Phadkar, Vijay Manjrekar, Ghulam Ahmed, M.L. Jaisimha, Dilip Sardesai .
