"If you have the leader under pressure, always go for him, You need to get stuck in," Shastri said at the launch of five-Test series.

"If you have the leader under pressure, always go for him, You need to get stuck in." Ravi Shastri has minced no words in his advice to the Indian team in England, set to play their first five-Test series since 1959.

England captain Alastair Cook hasn't scored a hundred in last 24 Test innings and Shastri reckoned he is under pressure similar to what David Gower faced in 1986, when India won the second of their three series wins in England.

"With David Gower, all we said was don't let him get runs in the first Test and let the pressure build. He lost the captaincy, India won the series," Shastri said at the launch of the series, which begins with the Nottingham Test on July 9.

Shastri also drew comparisons between Cook and Sachin Tendulkar when he captained India.

"The question is do you want a captain in Cook who is not playing freely or do you want Cook playing freely as a batsman? That is what happened to Sachin Tendulkar. As captain, he felt the pressure was getting to his batting and it was taken away."
