Riding on Owais Shah's 84 and Anamul Haque's 50, Dhaka Gladiators beat Khulna Royal Bengals by 62 runs in the opening match of the second edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) in Mirpur on Friday.

Shah hammered six sixes and four fours in his 48-ball knock, while Anamul scored 50 off 39 balls with four boundaries and three sixes as Gladiators posted 204 for 4 after opting to bat first. Dolar Mahmud was the pick of the bowlers for Khulna as he picked up three wickets in his four overs. Shakib Al Hasan made his first appearance since he suffered a shin injury late November and scored an unbeaten on 27 off 14 balls for the Gladiators.

Chasing mammoth total, Khulna got off to a decent start with openers Nazimuddin and Riki Wessels adding 38 in 4.3 overs but Mosharraf Hossain got better off Nazimuddin in his first over. Though Wessels delivered a 23-ball 30, it was never enough when the asking rate was above ten an over. He fell in the ninth over with his team on 67.
