Dhaka: Chris Gayle's blistering 61-ball 116 went in vain as Dhaka Gladiators move to the top of the Bangladesh Premier League after recording a 21-run win over Barisal Burners at the Shere Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
After being put into bat, the Gladiators rode Azhar Mahmood's 77 not out off 47 balls, Imran Nazir's 58 off 35 balls and Keiron Pollard's 36 off 15 balls to a mammoth total of 208/5. Yasir Arafat and Kabir Ali two wickets apiece for the Burners.
Gayle kept the Burners on course for the most part of their innings with his second ton in the tournament. But once Mahmood bowled him for his second wicket in the 18th over, it was all over for them, who could only go as far as 187 for five.
Chris Gayle's second ton in the tournament failed to take the Burners over the line.
With their third win in four matches, the Gladiators move top of the table with six points ahead of Chittagong Kings and Khulna Royal Bengals who have played a game fewer.
