England have given rest to Graeme Swann for the remaining three matches of the ongoing one day international series against South Africa.
In a statement on Wednesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said that the offspinner has been given rest so that he can recover from a long-term elbow injury. James Tredwell, the 30-year-old offspinner from Kent, has been called up as cover.
"(Swann) has admitted to carrying a long-term elbow problem in his right arm and will take the next three matches off before returning for the three-game Twenty20 series," a statement on the ECB website (www.ecb.co.uk) said.
South Africa lead the five match series 1-0 after winning the Southampton ODI by 80 runs. The third game of the series will be played at The Oval in London on Friday.
