Karachi: Pakistan's sacked and retired captain Shahid Afridi suffered a setback on Wednesday when English county Hampshire said it would not be playing the all-rounder in their Twenty20 league after his Cricket Board revoked the requisite NOC.

Hampshire, in conjunction with the English and Wales Cricket Board, have decided not to play Afridi and release him from his contract after the PCB on Tuesday revoked all NOC's issued to Afridi to play in foreign leagues.

Hampshire county made it clear that it was unable to play Afridi until he had a valid NOC from his home board.

The decision was induced after PCB revoked Afridi's NOCs after his sudden retirement.

The PCB has initiated disciplinary action against Afridi for his sudden decision to retire from international cricket to protest his sacking as ODI captain and for making disparaging comments about the board and its officials.

As part of the disciplinary measures, the board has revoked his NOCs, cancelled his central contract and issued him a show cause notice to which he has to respond within seven days.

The NOCs were issued to Afridi to play for Hampshire and in the inaugural Sri Lankan Twenty20 premier league next month.
