Haryana innings:

Haryana 172 for 4 in 61 overs: It's stumps. Rahul Dewan turns out to be the performer of the day with 77 not out off 181 balls. Sunny Singh too drew some attention with a quick 55. The hosts still trail by 349 runs. That's it from us. Will be back with day three tomorrow.

Haryana 165 for 4 in 55 overs: Monty Panesar makes his presence felt, traps Sachin Rana lbw for seven. Plumb. Sandeep Singh has joined Rahul Dewan (71), who has gone from strength to strength.

Haryana vs Eng XI, day two: as it happened

The batsman was unbeaten on 77 as the hosts, in reply to England XI's 521, closed the day on 172 for 4.

Haryana 138 for 3 in 44 overs: Abhimanyu Khod has a brief stay at the crease as Jonathan Trott takes a nice catch off Tim Bresnan, who takes his second wicket of the day. Rahul Dewan, however, is going as strong as ever, on 58 at present. Sachin Rana is the new man in.

Haryana 125 for 2 in 37 overs: Sunny Singh finally goes but impresses one and all before his innings of 55 off 74 balls comes to a close. Samit Patel takes the wicket as Jonathan Trott takes the catch. However, Rahul Dewan is as sedate as ever. He has also completed his fifty, on 51 at present. Abhimanyu Khod is the new man in.

Haryana 103 for 1 in 31 overs: Boy, ain't they valiant?! Both Rahul Dewan and Sunny Singh have been impregnable so far in their reply to England's 521. Dewan has been a bit ball-guzzling but Sunny is hitting boundaries now and then. Some contest underway.

Haryana 57 for 1 in 14 overs: There hasn't been any casualty since the last update. Rahul Dewan (29) looks really solid out there, picking up six boundaries over 51 balls. Sunny Singh (13) too seems to be at home. Since the wicket of Nitin Saini, the tourists' bowling hasn't been much penetrating.

Haryana 27 for 1 in 7 overs: Nitin Saini is the first batsman to go. He was looking good before giving a simple catch to Nick Compton off Tim Bresnan for 13. Sunny Singh has joined Rahul Dewan (13) at the crease.

England 521 all out in 118.2 overs at lunch on day 2: Eight wickets shared by the two Haryana spinners - Jayant Yadav (4 for 110) and Amit Mishra (4 for 67).

England 518 for 8: England hitting out here. Now Patel falls, having chipped it straight to long-on. Onions on the crease.

England 517 for 7 in 114 overs: Two quick wickets for Haryana as England take a hit-all approach. Prior out stumped while Bresnan holes out in the deep swinging. Patel still in there at 66.

England 507 for 5 in 109 overs: The burly England allrounder continues to impress with the bat. After a century in the previous warm-up game, this half-ton now and the growing injuries in the England camp, his place in the XI for the first Test is a certainty now. Prior is sizzling hot with 41 off 34 balls now, 5 fours and 2 sixes.

England 456 for 5 in 103 overs: Patel continues his fine touch with the bat, reaching 38 with the help of seven boundaries. Matt Prior, giving Patel company, has come out hitting; a four, a six and a single in his 11 off 16 balls.

England 438 for 5 in 97 overs: Ian Bell has been dismissed, guided one straight to the slip cordon. Gone for 62. Sachin Rana gets the wicket; Haryana waiting for the declaration.

A clarification has come across that Pietersen retired out, not retired hurt, yesterday. So England effectively 423 for 4 now.

England XI first innings (day two)

England 423 for 3 in 94 overs: Samit Patel has began on a speedy note as compared to Bell. The allrounder has already added 10 runs to his total while Bell has helped himself to four more to move into the sixties.

Day-2 scenario:

England will look to pile the misery on Haryana on day two of their final practice match at Ahmedabad as they resume at a commanding 408 for 3, with Haryana at best waiting for declaration by the visitors.

Day-one round-up:

On Thursday, Kevin Pietersen hit his first century since returning to the England set-up and captain Alastair Cook made 97 on day one at the Sardar Patel Stadium B Ground. Also cashing in on a good batting strip against a lackluster Haryana bowling attack was Nick Compton, whose 144-ball 74 appears to have ensured him of a Test debut next week, and Ian Bell after three indifferent innings on tour.

Bell (57*) and Samit Patel (11*) were at the crease when stumps were drawn on Thursday.
