    Haryana take 1st-innings lead vs UP

    At the close of play on the second day, Haryana were 271 for eight in reply Uttar Pradesh\'s 227 all out at the Dr Akhilesh Das Stadium.

    Lucknow: Rahul Dewan's pugnacious knock of 93 and an equally important innings of 65 by Joginder Sharma paved the way for Haryana's slender lead of 44 runs in their Group B Ranji Trophy match against Uttar Pradesh here on Sunday. At the close of play on the second day, Haryana were 271 for eight in reply Uttar Pradesh's 227 all out at the Dr Akhilesh Das Stadium.

    Resuming the day at 32 for one, the visitors rode on Dewan's knock to take the honours even as medium pacers Ankit Rajpoot (4 for 66) and Imtiaz Ahmed (3 for 86) put up a very spirited show. Dewan spent 347 minutes during which he faced 266 balls and struck 14 fours.

    Sharma hit nine fours and a six while facing 90 deliveries. Barring Dewan and Sharma's knocks, and a 36 by Rahul Dalal, the Haryana batsmen struggled to come to terms with the host bowlers. Jayant Yadav (23) and Mohit Sharma (5) were at the crease when stumps were drawn.

    Karnataka vs Vidarbha

    In Mysore, Muralidharen Gautam carried on with his good form as he completed his double century to lead Karnataka to a mammoth 619 for eight on day two of their Ranji Trophy Group B match against Vidarbha, here today.

    Undefeated on 129 overnight, Gautam scored a magnificent 257 off 394 balls with the help of 20 boundaries. Replying to the Karnataka's mammoth score, Vidarbha reached 48 for no loss with openers Shiv Sundar Das (26) and Faiz Fazal (21) to resume on Monday. Vidarbha bowlers, who were off-colour in last two sessions on Saturday, managed to pick a couple of wickets but conceded far too many runs after Pandey and Binny ripped their bowling apart sharing 90 runs.

    Baroda vs Tamil Nadu

    In Vadodara, young batsman Baba Aparajith and R Prasanna struck half-centuries as Tamil Nadu closed in on a first innings lead against Baroda in their Ranji Trophy Group B match, here on Sunday. Tamil Nadu dismissed Baroda for 208 after removing the last batsman Mayur Vahora (47).

    The visitors then ended the day at 166 for six, 43 runs behind Baroda's total, with Prasanna batting at 60 and giving him company was J Kaushik (1). Aparajith, who scored 62 before being stumped off Panchal, was the only batsman in the top-order to make an impact as other failed terribly. His 62 came off 191 balls with the help of nine shots to the fence.

    Pace duo of Mayur Vahora (3 for 23) and Sankalp Vohra (2 for 39) shared five wickets between them to unsettle the Tami, Nadu top-oder. It will be interesting to see who takes the first innings lead since both the teams have equal chance to getting it.
