Ravindra Jadeja starred with both bat and ball on Saturday, but it was his 66* off 45 balls that proved to be decisive in the final outcome as he scored 17 of those in the final over of the game to help the visitors match New Zealand's 314 to tie the game.
Jadeja scored a six and a couple of fours in the last over bowled by allrounder Corey Anderson, who, until then was the Kiwi star with the ball having taken his maiden five-wicket haul (5 for 63).
The counter-attack that was initiated by Ms Dhoni's half-century, was given shape by R Ashwin (65 off 46) before Jadeja's last-over assault helped India achieve the second-best result and stay alive in the five match series, though they can now only draws it by winning the last two ODIs.
