New Delhi Pakistan offspinner Saeed Ajmal has said in jest that it was he who forced Sachin Tendulkar to retire from ODI cricket after dismissing him in the Asia Cup last year. On March 18, 2012 at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Tendulkar edged an Ajmal doosra to Younis Khan at slips after scoring 52.

In his interview to Wisden India, Ajmal said it was that wicket which forced Tendulkar to call time on his ODI career after 463 matches. "I took his wicket in Mohali (2011 World Cup semi-final) as well. He is a super superstar, that's what the world calls him. He has nearly 50,000 runs in professional cricket. So obviously it was great moment for me when I took his wicket.

"He was having trouble in picking the doosra in his last ODI in the Asia Cup. Misbah said to me we could get him out caught at slips. Younis Khan moved to slips and it worked out exactly as planned. I got the wicket of the world-class batsman and it came off such a great delivery that he was compelled to quit ODI cricket after it," Ajmal said.

The Pakistan offspinner remarked in jest that it was his dismissal of Tendulkar in the Asia Cup that led the master batsman to quit the format.

This is not for the first time Ajmal has taken a dig at Tendulkar. After the Asia cup match, Ajmal had questioned Tendulkar's ability to play the doosra. "If Sachin can't read the doosra, then he is nearing his end." This joke would certainly not go down well with the majority of Tendulkar's fans all across the world.
