India favourites for World T20: Yuvraj

The recovering allrounder believes India have a strong batting line-up capable of delivering success.

Dubai: Yuvraj Singh has tipped India to lift the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka on the might of their batting strength.

Speaking on the ICC's new weekly multi-platform show, ICC Cricket 360, Yuvraj - who is remembered for his six consecutive sixes off Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition in 2007 - termed India as favourites. "I think [the] favourites are India because we've got the biggest hitters. Hopefully, I should be back by then. I'm not saying I'm the reason. It's just that I feel we have the strongest side and if we can sort our bowling out in Twenty20, I'm sure we can be a strong unit. There are other strong teams like Australia and South Africa which always compete at the top level at world events."

India won the World Twenty20 in South Africa in 2007 but have failed to reach the knock-out stages of the two succeeding editions in 2009 and 2010. In 2009 in England, they lost to the hosts and South Africa and failed to reach the semi-finals, and a year later in the West Indies, defeats to the home side and Sri Lanka saw India exit early too.

The 2012 tournament begins on September 18 and India have been drawn in Group A with England and Afghanistan.
