New Delhi: England have secured second spot in the latest ICC rankings for Test teams following the thrilling draw against New Zealand at Auckland on Tuesday, leaving India to finish third on the table on the April 1 cut-off date.
England went into the third and final Test against New Zealand needing to win or draw to secure second position. India, having beaten Australia 4-0, needed England to lose to move up to No. 2. By virtue of scrapping on for a memorable draw, which ended with England nine wickets down, Alastair Cook's team has held on to No. 2.
England are currently on 114 points to India's 112, and will receive $350,000 for finishing second. India will get $250,000.
All this also means that South Africa will retain the championship mace as the top side in the Reliance ICC Test Championship rankings. They will now receive a cheque for $450,000.
