Hamilton: Martin Guptill, the New Zealand opener, hopes his recent run of form against Zimbabwe can keep him in a good frame of mind against South Africa in the upcoming series. Zimbabwe have posted few problems for Guptill across all three formats in the one-sided home series, but the 25-year-old was fully aware of what challenges South Africa would throw up.

"I'm just sticking to my game plan and hitting in my areas and trying not to go outside that and it's working for me. If I can just carry on what I've been doing over the past six weeks or so I'm going to be successful over the coming weeks," Guptill said.

Guptill has scored 374 runs in five innings over three formats against Zimbabwe. He made 51 in his one Test innings in Napier, then scored 70, 77 and 85 in the three ODIs at better than a run-a-ball. In the first Twenty20 match at Eden Park on Saturday, Guptill blazed an unbeaten 91 off 54 balls as New Zealand easily chased down a target of 160.

Martin Guptill has scored 374 runs in five innings over three formats against Zimbabwe.

He credited his top-order colleagues Rob Nicol and stand-in captain Brendon McCullum in helping him hit the right groove against Zimbabwe. "The confidence I've got at the moment is fantastic and batting with Brendon and Rob at the top of the order really gets me going. I enjoy batting with them," said Guptill.

South Africa will play three Twenty20s, three ODIs and three Tests in New Zealand.
