Hyderabad: The bowling powerhouse Sunrisers Hyderabad will be once again in action when they host the Adam Gilchrist-led Kings XI Punjab in game 25 of IPL 6 at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium in Hyderabad on Friday.
Hyderabad will be high on confidence after a tremendous win over Pune Warriors India, which they snatched from the jaws of defeat. Amit Mishra's four wickets in five balls that included a hat-trick helped them beat Pune by 11 runs on Wednesday. Mishra is also delivering for his side with the bat with useful contributions lower down the order, turning him into a very valuable asset.
Hyderabad are third on the points table but inconsistency in their batting has been a major letdown. Kumar Sangakkara has looked a pale shadow of himself so far in the tournament and Cameron White has delivered in patches. With Shikhar Dhawan still out injured, young Quinton de Kock and White together with the big-hitting Thisara Perera will once again shoulder their batting responsibility. Hyderabad will hope they can get some contributions from Parthiv Patel up the order too.
The team's success owes to some splendid bowling performances so far. Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma have consistently provided the breakthroughs and have not allowed the opposition batting to cut loose. Mishra produced a stunning performance against Pune and his confidence will be sky high, while the in-form Perera will surely get the nod ahead of West Indies skipper Darren Sammy once again. Karan Sharma will fill the duty of the fifth bowler.
Punjab suffered two heavy losses at the hands of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals but will come into the game on the back of a victory over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. Manpreet Gony, playing in his first game of the season, made a big impact in the final outcome of the game against KKR as he shone with both bat and ball. While his cameo innings proved match-winning, KXIP need their main batsman clicking in unison.
Gilchrist's form with the bat continues to be a worry and the young pair of Mandeep Singh and Manan Vohra have played pretty shots without really putting together crucial innings. Azhar Mahmood, who failed with the bat in the previous matches, will hope to make a good contribution this time around. In the bowling department, Praveen Kumar, Piyush Chawla and Mahmood have formed a lethal combination and will look to attack the Hyderabad batsmen.
