Bangalore: The IPL's Deccan Chargers franchise will be known as Sun Risers from the upcoming season, it was announced on Tuesday. The Sun TV Network, which bought the cash-strapped franchise earlier this year for a whopping Rs 425.2 crores, have chose the new name.
Deccan, who won the 2009 IPL, was terminated by the BCCI this year. Pepsi won the bid to become the title sponsor of the IPL after DLF ended its contract after five years.
On Tuesday, the franchisee's official twitter account @Sun_IPL wrote: "Our team will be called as 'Sun Risers' from #IPL 2013. Spread the word :)"
