Vinay Kumar has a knack of pulling it off in the last-over battles. On Thursday, he did it again, this time for his new employers Kolkata Knight Riders against his former bosses at the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Needing 9 off the last over, with AB de Villiers on the crease, people had their money on Bangalore. Kolkata skipper Gautam Gambhir threw the ball to Vinay and he took his side home by just 2 runs, though part of the credit went to the stunning catch by Chris Lynn at the boundary to get rid of de Villiers.

"I just backed myself to bowl in the areas that were my strengths. At the start of my run-up, I told myself that I had to stick to my plans and bowl at the right length. I knew if I bowled in those areas - close to a hundred percent - then it would be very difficult for the batsmen to score runs. I backed my abilities and it paid off," Vinay told the official IPL website, iplt20.com.

About the stunning catch by Lynn just inside the ropes, Vinay said he thought it was a six even after his team-mate had pulled off a blinder. "I thought the ball had gone for a six. Chris Lynn took an amazing catch. I even thought that he had crossed the boundary line after taking the catch. He made sure that he was inside the boundary line. I would say it was an amazing presence of mind and a superb catch to turn the match on its head."

Vinay also credited a lot of his success of KKR's bowling coach Wasim Akram. "Working with Wasim Akram is a great feeling and I am learning a lot of things from a legend like him. He has helped me plan and bowl according to the situation. I am learning to bowl yorkers and I get some reverse swing," captain of the current Ranji Trophy-holders Karnataka said.
